Premier League: Leicester City end Manchester United’s 29-game unbeaten run away, City beat Burnley

Premier League: Manchester United were punished for a poor defensive display at Leicester City as the Red Devils’ run of 29 unbeaten away matches came to an end. Meanwhile, Manchester City kept the pressure on leaders Liverpool with a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Leicester City came up with a clinical performance against Manchester United at home, ending their four-match winless run. A 2-4 defeat at the King Power Stadium meant United’s 29-match unbeaten run away from home came to an end.

Goals from Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka helped Brendan Rodgers’ men outclass United for whom Cristiano Ronaldo had a forgettable night.

Manchester United are at the 5th spot with 14 points from 8 matches, 4 points behind leaders Liverpool who hammered Watford 5-0 away from home on Saturday. Pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer grows as United have managed just 1 point from their last three Premier League games.

With the score 2-2 late in the game, Vardy netted a superb goal with the outside of his foot to cap a frantic five-minute spell before substitute Patson Daka put the icing on the cake for Leicester in stoppage time.

Mason Greenwood had fired United into a 19th-minute lead when he unleashed a thunderbolt from 20 metres that flew into the far corner as it shaved the inside of the post.

But the visitors were punished for sloppy passing in the danger zone in the 31st as Kelechi Iheanacho robbed Harry Maguire of the ball and squared it for Tielemans to hit the top corner with a looping shot over goalkeeper David De Gea.

Marcus Rashford equaliser in vain

A tame second half came to life when Soyuncu turned the tide with a close-range effort in the 78th minute before Marcus Rashford, returning after shoulder surgery in August, levelled for United in the 82nd.

Less than 60 seconds later, however, substitute Ayoze Perez chipped the ball into Vardy’s path and the striker gave De Gea no chance, before Daka took advantage of more poor defending by United to tap the ball in at the far post.

Manchester City keep pressure on Liverpool

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne were on target as Manchester City beat Burnley 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to stay within a point of Premier League leaders Liverpool

Pep Guardiola’s side are on 17 points from eight games, in second place, with Liverpool top on 18 points. Chelsea could return to the top of the table if they win at Brentford later on Saturday.
