Mithun, who made his India debut in 2010, played 4 Tests and 5 ODIs while picking up 12 wickets at the international level. The Karnataka fast bowler last played for India in December 2011.

Abhimanyu Mithun, who had been a workhorse for Karnataka in domestic cricket, played 103 first-class matches, 96 List A games and 74 T20s, picking up more than 500 wickets in 13-year-long career.Abhimanyu Mithun, 31, took to social media to make his announcement, saying representing India has been his biggest achievement.”After serious thought and contemplation, I, Abhimanyu Mithun have decided to retire from first-class cricket in order to pursue other avenues in my career.”I have represented my country at the highest level and will always be my highest achievement.
